Waxman's remaining line of attack entails tacking Bloomfield's previous campaign contributions to his probable legislative actions.
The Waxman camp has set up a "Bill Bloomfield facts" exposing his "Republican" donations.
What can an independent do in our two-party presidential election system? He supported Romney, who fiscal policies more closely mirror his independent platform, then he switched his support to Jon Huntsman. Congressman Waxman still stands by his President, the same executive who has broadened the dependency rolls in this country with "the new normal" of high unemployment, higher welfare accounts, business stagnations, anemic recovery, and a failing foreign policy.
If anyone has some explaining to do, it should be Congressman Henry Waxman. Would he like to explain the exploding failures associated with ObamaCare?
Perhaps Congressman Waxman would like to talk about the exploding debt exposing our country to a looming debt crisis.
Then again, Congressman Waxman may also like to discuss why he voted against the "No More Solyndras" Act or the "JOBS bill" which a majority of Democrats and Republicans supported.
Bloomfield has endorsed his fair share of Democrats as well as Republicans. He has "led the fight" for electoral reform, including the open primary and the citizens redistricting commission, both of which have placed Waxman in the precarious position of losing his place in Congress.
The "facts" are that Bloomfield has more to offer the 33rd than the Congressman who has spent more time making himself comfortable in Washington instead of confronting the real problems with real compromise.

"Henry Waxman: Leading the Flight?"
Congressman Waxman's campaign slogan is "Leading the Fight."
But for the past few weeks, it seems as if it should be "Leading the Flight."
First, he cancels interviews. Then he shuts down a detractor in an open forum in Redondo Beach.
Congressman Waxman seems to be taking flight or "leaving the fight" rather than "leading the fight."
For the first time in 38 years, he has to run a campaign, and he is not that good at it.
At the Hesse Park Community Center Debate, Congressman Waxman set out flyers which pictured him in a doctor's office, along the beach, and also photos from his childhood and his graduation from law school. The recent photos placing him talking with constituents could not seem more contrived or fake. When's the last time that Congressman Waxman ever went out of his way to be seen with voters, let alone listen to their concerns on local matters?
I do not believe that anyone suspected that this man had a childhood, but his attempts to breed respect and familial interest with voters cannot match up with his hard-nosed approach to working with colleagues or challenging and badgering witnesses as chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
In some ways, his flyer campaign is amateurish, a strange appraisal considering the fact that he has been in office for nearly four decades.
For the first time in 38 years, he has to persuade voters to elect him, not give him another term in office.
The voters from Palos Verdes to Malibu have a real choice, and Bloomfield is providing them the picture of a home-grown native son who has stepped into many causes. Waxman claims to be "leading the fight", but the issues he discusses took place decades ago. Those fights have been fought. What does he suggest to do about the debt? What about entitlements? In his only line of attack, he denigrates the Ryan plan as a voucher that will short-change seniors. Waxman neglects to mention that the Ryan budget does not touch Medicare for current seniors, while providing a choice for those 54 and under.
Waxman is not "leading the fight", he is "leading by fraud."

Democrats for a Better California Endorse. . .Bloomfield!
I found this one flyer last night just before I returned home.
Entitled "Democrats for a Better California", this coalition published its serious endorsements for state and national elections. As expected, they have endorsed Al Muratsuchi for the 66th Assembly District and Jackie Lacey for LA District Attorney.
Regarding the 33rd Congressional District race, they chose not to endorse Waxman -- a startling turn, to say the least. They have endorsed Bill Bloomfield!
Labeling him a "Local Small Business Owner" (when in fact he has started four successful businesses altogether), the rest of the caption reads:
"Independent leader Bill Bloomfield will put country ahead of partisan politics to fix Congress and get America back to work."
A positive message for a candidate who is in position to win the 33rd Congressional District.
Here is the mission statement for Democrats for a Better California:
Contrary to the detractors in the local press, who have attacked Bill for not reaching out to Democrats, already a significant Democratic caucus has stood up to their party bosses to back and independent.
Democrats of the 33rd, come out and vote for Bill Bloomfield on November 6th!

It is time to turn our focus on the economy and jobs creation here in our state.
Their flyers target seniors and permanent absentee ballot Democrats, more likely because the older generation is more conservative on fiscal issues.

Noonan's Take on Bloomfield's Chances
http://www.thefrontpageonline.com/articles1-11848/BloomfieldallsLastWeekendasaNonMemberofCongress
Ari Noonan of "Front Page Online" in Culver City offered up some winning points on Bill Bloomfield's independent run for Congress:
Unlike certain national candidates, the retired Manhattan Beach entrepreneur has accentuated the positive and eliminated the negative, a concept that an imaginative songwriter might set to music someday. He tells audiences what he plans to do in Washington to dislodge legislative gridlock instead of attacking his rival.
This tack of positive at all costs versus negative for any gains is a tough balancing act.
Bloomfield really pulled it off. Negative commercials, if any, point to Waxman's connection with the "swamp" of partisan politics or his contribution to the massive debt.
Of course, I have not been nearly so kind. But I am not the one running for Congress.
Apparently, Bloomfield has been fulfilling the office of legislator without actually taking a seat in a legislature. Instead of spending taxpayer dollars, he has invested his own money in numerous causes, from tort reform to gang-prevention to improving inner city schools to assisting the plight of women in third-world countries.
Henry Waxman has passed laws. Laws do not improve the world. Free people, free enterprise, and freedom makes the world a better place, and a man who is willing to spend his wealth freely for the greater good -- all power to him.
If there had been objective polling in the new 33rd Congressional District – which blends parts of Mr. Waxman’s old Westside (emphasize Beverly Hills) enclaves with Mr. Bloomfield’s more familiar South Bay territory – Mr. Bloomfield’s Favorables would outweigh his Unfavorables about 98 to 2.
This statistic escapes me, but any good news is good news worth taking on. I have received numerous reports that Bloomfield is within striking distance of Congressman Henry Waxman. That turn of events in itself should galvanize every reluctant Democrat and Independent, along with every Republican who does not like Waxman (all of them!) to get the word out, get out the vote, and get Waxman out of office.
That also happened to be the gaping margin that Mr. Waxman held over him at the formal start of their campaign after they finished 1-2 in the June primary. Everyone Knew the name “Waxman,” and despite the fact Mr,. Bloomfield has lived here for all of his 62 years and been immensely successful in commerce, his circle was much more modest.
Like many incumbents in lopsided districts against the other major party, name recognition and incumbency was enough to carry over into another term in office. With open primaries, citizen redistricting, and a diligent crowd of independents with more than a fighting change, long-time legislators like Henry Waxman could no longer hide behind the color of the majority in their own districts.
To Bill Bloomfield, than you for putting up a real fight against Henry "The Taxman" Waxman. Every conservative voter in the South Bay is rooting for you. Get out there and take the seat!

Issa Gives Obama and Waxman a Run for their Subpoenas
http://washpost.bloomberg.com/Story?docId=1376-MCGXEP6KLVR901-6S4F031N84C9NKUEAP34NBTVFL
Darrell Issa is holding sway as chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
His appointment to the chairmanship is poetic justice at its best. He showed "Give 'em Hell Henry" a hard time as ranking member in 2008.
I am aware that Mr. Issa is facing token opposition in his Congressional district, so he can concentrate on holding the Obama Administration's feet to the fire.
Pershaps Congressman Issa could investigate the backroom deals which led to the passage of ObamaCare. I am sure that that piece of legislation, along with other less noteworthy events in Congressman Waxman's career, would keep Waxman plenty worried!

No, Bruins! (Daily Bruin Endorses Waxman)
http://www.dailybruin.com/article/2012/11/endorsement-henry-waxman-for-representative
Normally, on the UCLA Campus, visitors and students will hear "Go Bruins!"
Now, all I can shout is "No Bruins!"
UCLA falls within the borders of the new 33rd, yet the student editorial board of the Daily Bruin has tipped their had to endorse Congressman Henry Waxman.
Like the back-handed endorsement for Henry Waxman in the Santa Monica Daily Press, the student paper also offered up a tepid support for the long-term incumbent:
This board supports Congressman Henry Waxman for re-election. Though his case for a 36th straight year in the House of Representatives isn’t the strongest, his opponent is too flawed to jump into the fray in Washington, D.C.
Bloomfield is "too flawed" -- that's a strange assessment for choosing to support Waxman for another term, a legislator who has spent more time pursuing inane issues or pushing on this country unpopular legislation that would kill jobs.

His campaign tilts more anti-Waxman than pro-Bloomfield, while maintaining that he will be a moderate voice in the House.
Bloomfield would indeed be a moderate voice in Congress, an independent who in refusing to caucus with either party, who in refusing to accept donations from PAC, special interests, or party bosse, will not be beholden to any interest but his view and his voters.
But Bloomfield has failed to lay out concrete plans for governing. The Santa Monica-based businessman seems too concerned with quickly fixing what he calls a “broken” Congress than effectively advocating for local constituents on the federal level.
What!? And what has Waxman done on a "local level" for the voters! He had not visited the Malibu Democratic club in four years before he started paying attention, and that only because he faced stiff competition this year!
We know where Waxman stands on all the issues. As a representative, he helped push the Affordable Care Act through during his most recent term. In the past he’s fought to maintain Pell Grants for higher education. Along with President Barack Obama, who also gets this board’s endorsement, Waxman has proven that he will support policies addressing the needs of students.
Someone needs to inform this student body that legislation like "ObamaCare" is hurting hospitals all over the country. I wonder how many of those med students will feel when the graduate with their white coats. Will they be facing pink slips and unemployment lines next? How many more hospitals will have to close before the voters in the 33rd acknowledge that "Affordable Care Act" is in name only?
More on the Daily Bruin editorial will continue in the next post.

Fox News Comments on the "33rd Congressional District Race"
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/11/02/upstart-challenger-redistricting-have-calif-rep-waxman-fighting-to-keep-his/
Now Fox News is getting in on the action.
Henry Waxman, facing two major redistricting reforms followed by a strong, well-funded independent challenger, has force the 38-year incumbent to campaign for real for the first time.
Waxman is not telling the truth. Twice during his tenure -- 1986, 2008 -- Waxman did not have a viable, major party challenger. Often, Waxman has bragged that he never had to mount a serious campaign throughout his career.
Of course, this development served him but not the voters or the state. He may dole out favors and respond to individual requests, but a Congressman is on call to defend the constitution, protecting our rights and maintaining fiscal solvency in the fact of growing debts and deficits which are destroying the future of this country.
Fernando Guerra of Loyola Marymount University offered up his opinion on the race, both flawed and perhaps biased:

Henry Waxman, facing two major redistricting reforms followed by a strong, well-funded independent challenger, has force the 38-year incumbent to campaign for real for the first time.
"I've always had challengers and I never take a campaign for granted," Waxman told Fox News. "But I do have an opponent who is serious only because he has millions of dollars of his own money that he's just pouring into this race."
Waxman is not telling the truth. Twice during his tenure -- 1986, 2008 -- Waxman did not have a viable, major party challenger. Often, Waxman has bragged that he never had to mount a serious campaign throughout his career.

He points out that Waxman's status as a Washington insider won't hurt his chances in the newly drawn 33rd which stretches down the Pacific coastline west of Los Angeles.
Henry Waxman defines "Washington Insider" -- yet to then assume that he commands commensurate experience does not match up with a record of denying any knowledge about this country's steroid laws, all the while running oversight hearings on the issue. Nor does his lack of knowledge about his own bill or the auto bailouts measure up with an "insider" who knows his way around Washington.
"He's hardly involved in local politics or local policy anymore," Guerra said. "He is the epitome of a D.C. focused individual. However, his district, I would say, likes that. They are on the west side of Los Angeles, policy-oriented and don't expect him to come to these different Sunday, Saturday or weekend kind of things. So it's not as bad as it would be in other areas."
"He's hardly involved in local politics or local policy anymore"
Bloomfield ought to take this indictment and spread it throughout the new 33rd. When will the voters in this district, in the Santa Monica Bay get tired of politicians who do not have to retain basic knowledge about their role in Congress? House Representatives are supposed to represent their districts, are they not?
Of course, Bloomfield pounced on this assertion in the Fox interview:

Of course, Bloomfield pounced on this assertion in the Fox interview:
Waxman's opponent argues that's exactly why voters should choose him over the long-time Democrat. He says primary reform provides a voice for an underrepresented bloc of voters.
In Waxman's case, that "underrepresented bloc would be the vast majority of voters, including the individuals who want to see proper care of the Ballona Wetlands, a real solution to the Santa Monica Airport which will honor the interests of the owners and the pilots while respecting the residents in the area who desire less noise pollution. Let us not forget the large and still growing homeless populations throughout the Los Angeles area, who are still waiting for the Brentwood VA to open up to them. I could add the Post Offices in Santa Monica and Venice, which after all of Waxman's letter writing there is no record of anything taking place.
While Mr. Guerra gives the impression that the 33rd is still Waxman's district to win, it would appear that he has simply outlined a number of reasons why Bloomfield should go to Congress instead.
Fox News, normally castigated as a right-wing mouth piece, actually delivered an account which gives a reading which buffets Bloomfield for the win.
Let us not forget that Bloomfield was willing to take questions from prospective voters at the Jewish Community Center in Redondo Beach, while Congressman Waxman on that and many other occasions has justified himself in shutting down anyone who does not agree with him!
