The rank stupidity of blocking a pipeline because the oil is "dirty" would be like forbidding one's child to go outside and play because there are traces of Carbon Dioxide in the air.
Human beings breathe out Carbon Dioxide, and oil will always be dirty.
If Mr. Waxman is so concerned about dirty oil, perhaps he is suggesting that the United States should shut down every oil derrick and drive every oil company out of business.
A clean environment is a win-win for the United States, but not at the risk of harming consumers, killing jobs, and bankrupting businesses.
If Mr. Waxman loves the environment so much, let him run the Sierra Club.
He has no business representing the constituents of the Santa Monica Bay.
