More on Solyndra: Waxman Decries the "Kangaroo Court"

http://idealab.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/10/waxman-calls-house-energy-commerce-solyndra-hearing-a-kangaroo-court.php

It is amazing how Waxman can attack the majority party for leading a diligent hearing on the egregious misuse of taxpayer dollars. He considers the ongoing investigation into federal loan guarantees a "kangaroo court." Congress is supposed to be investigating waste and fraud, yet Waxman turns up his nose at such inquiries.

If there is any better, or more caustic example, of the pot calling the kettle "bully", it would be Waxman upbraiding the serious and prescient hearing into the loan guarantees to green energy companies under the Obama Administration.

The list of failed companies is staggering:

"There have been so many “successes” that it’s hard to keep track of them all: Solyndra, Beacon Power, Abound Solar, Nevada Geothermal Power, Ener1, A123, SunPower, First Solar, Evergreen Solar, Solar Trust for America, Fisker Automotive… every one of them swimming in a thick “success” gravy of bankruptcy and layoffs."

Waxman lashed out at Darrell Issa during one hearing, he dragged athletes and staff before the Government Oversight Committee during his tenure as chairman, yet now he justifies turning around and lambasting the legitimate use of oversight on the Energy Committee to find out why so much money was wasted, and why the Obama Administration's several executive departments were so incompetent with other people's money.

These Energy loans have yielded nothing but failure and fiscal insanity. The poor research and development dumped into companies which boasted strong revenue sources before receiving these loans only accentuates the inherent immorality and lack of necessity of putting down taxpayer dollars to fund experiments in green technology.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xCav8goGSxA

In the above link, Chairman Ed Whitfield respectfully submits a serious question: why offer loans to companies who do not need them? The fact that Solyndra possessed a well-funded base yet still request a loan-guarantee was enough to arouse Mr. Whitfield's suspicion.

How many of the disgraced CEOs from Solyndra and other companies have been dragged before the House Oversight committee? Why has Congressman Waxman not raised any alarm over the rampant waste carried about Congress, all in the name of protecting the environment?

Regarding Solyndra Boondogle: Waxman Says "Sorry!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUkl2YGwEv8
"It's a Shame" -- Taxpayers Scammed by the Green Lobby
"I'm sorry Solyndra happened."

Waxman gives the impression that Solyndra was a spontaneous eruption and anomaly, as if he and his Democratic ilk -- especially the President who is trying hard to ride the Green Wave of environmental fanaticism to shore up his wiped-out base -- had nothing to do with such an extravagance and unaccountable expenditure.

Congress

That's all that Congressman Waxman has to say regarding the $500 million boondoggle that served up nothing but waste and bankruptcy.

Yet Waxman continues:

"We lost $500 mill lion dollars."

"That's a shame."

Yet a major official from the White House contradicted Waxman  in an Oversight Committee Hearing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jZE26ZxSn-0

The current administration is speaking out of both sides of its mouth on this issue, and Mr. Waxman has no regret or any sense of responsibility about the matter.

When will our legislators get off the environmental merry-go-round and get back to maintaining law and order in this country? Every time that the federal government sticks its nose into regulating anything beyond the enumerated powers of the Constitution, there is nothing but waste, fraud, and deception left in the wake, and the taxpayers by and large pick up the tab.

More than "a shame", Solyndra was a sham and a scam. Green technology bankrolled by the federal government is a dead-on-arrival proposal. Wind farms depend on subsidies just for the initial established. If these and other environmentally sound proposals were efficient and marketable, then they would not need multi-million dollar banking with federal taxpayer dollars.

Waxman continues in his "apology:

"That's why loan guarantees are provided. because these are risky enterprises, and not all of them are going to succeed."

There's nothing wrong with a loan guarantee, Mr. Waxman, provided that the creditor is using his own money to back up an investment whose failure will effect only the one who put down the money.
Private enterprise inevitably falls on the entrepreneur.

Yet Congress has no business floating loans of any kind for businesses. We the taxpayers suffer the losses, not the legislators who spend the money. Once again, Mr. Waxman cannot see the fiscal forest for the obsessive desire to save the trees.

Either Mr. Waxman never took an economics course in his life, or his utter disdain for the intelligence and the welfare of his constituents has just risen to new heights, where his off-hand regret will not in truth offend the very voters who expected him to manage the little revenue that this country has left.

And this man has the audacity to claim, "We're not broke. . ."

"No More Solyndras" Passes

http://sustainablebusinessoregon.com/national/2012/09/no-more-solyndras-act-passes-house.html

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/14/usa-solyndra-idUSL1E8KE8ND20120914

The House of Representatives, the one chamber that is getting things done, including passing a budget, just passed the "No More Solyndras" Act.

Following the fallout from the Mainstream Media, which could no longer ignore the multiple green tech companies which went bankrupt, taking down in their financial failure billions of taxpayer dollars. Even KABC-7 put up an extensive spread on the hybrid vehicle industries which have American federal subsidies, only to spend the money hiring foreign workers in different countries. Even the companies which seem to be doing well are not using the funds as Congress had expected.

Green loan guarantees have been a non-starter from the beginning. The Obama Administration has been picking and choosing "winners" and "losers" over these subsidies. The whole matter should offend more people.

Reuters reported the following:

"This is not serious legislation, it's a political bill," said Henry Waxman, the top Democrat on the House Energy panel.

"They've been dancing on the grave of Solyndra for so long. Enough is enough," said Waxman, who blamed Chinese subsidies for the failure of Solyndra.

In another example of the rank hypocrisy, the ranking member of the House Energy Committee demonizes the party in power, yet how many times did "Bully Pulpit" Waxman manipulate hearings to intimidate CEOs and play for the camera? Waxman defines political theater, going out of his way earlier this year to snidely insinuate that the XL Keystone extension is rushing through the House because the Koch Brothers have "bought" so many Congressman.

How many interest groups have contributed to your coffers, Mr. Waxman?

Regarding "dancing on the grave of Solyndra", if Mr. Waxman is not careful, the voters in the 33rd Congressional District will be dancing on his political grave. This election will end of an unremarkable career in politics which epitomizes the worst about crass career politicians, including these unthinking and unfruitful loan guarantees.

Another Claim from Waxman's Campaign

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lICnGq0Udpg

"Moved clean energy legislation that creates thousands of jobs"

Is Waxman talking about and taking credit for Solyndra? The House Energy Committee just finished a mark-up for the "No More Solyndras" Act.

The federal loan guarantees from Congress for these and other green companies have been sunk and lost in bankrupt firms which had first given the impression of financial insolvency.

How many other firms have gone bust in the quest for efficient, green energy?

Let's consider European firms, which have not received American taxpayer dollars:

The firm was carrying more than $500 million in debt and was unable to reach an "amicable solution" with its debtors and investors. In August, we reported that the company shut down its 60-megawatt module manufacturing facility in Tucson, resulting in the loss of around 60 jobs. The firm has about 800 employees, according to Die Welt. Solon is also the lead investor in Global Solar Energy, a maker of CIGS flexible solar panels. The impact that the Solon insolvency will have on GSE is unclear.

Solon joined Solyndra, Evergreen Solar, and SpectraWatt in 2011's bankruptcy pool. ECD joined that team in 2012, along with a number of other firms yet to be announced, the victim of plunging prices, overcapacity and a rough economy in an uncertain time for solar policy.

Companies in Austria are also failing: http://austrianindependent.com/index.php?id=5437
In large because of complex tax and regulation structure, the same policies supported by Waxman, these companies cannot thrive. Of course, the immense cost of production and sale diminishes their profitability. More importantly, Americans are losing jobs from these abortive green tech investment.
However, contrary to Waxman's empty assertion that green investment creates green jobs, there is ample evidence that taxpayers are losing money, too:

The company, Ener1, received a $118 million grant from DOE [Department of Energy] in 2010 as part of the president’s stimulus package,” writes the Heritage Foundation’s Lachlan Markay. “The money, which went to Ener1 subsidiary EnerDel, aimed to promote renewable energy storage battery technology for electrical grid use.” (http://strokesofcandor.com/the-watchdog/another-government-green-energy-company-files-for-bankruptcy-as-obama-announces-more-loans/)

Beacon Power, which manufactures flywheel energy storage technology, received a $43 million loan guarantee from the same stimulus program that funded Solyndra [emphasis added],” Markay writes. “Despite having used $3 million marked for loan repayment to continue funding its daily operations, Beacon filed for Chapter 11 in November.”

For more information on Solyndra, please vist: http://hotair.com/archives/2012/01/26/another-green-tech-stimulus-recipient-files-for-bankruptcy/

“Evergreen Solar Inc. said it has failed to find a buyer for its Devens, Mass., plant and plans to walk away from the facility, which was launched with some $50 million in state aid,” the The Wall Street Journal’s reports.

In case you don’t remember, Evergreen Solar Inc. is the Massachusetts-based “green tech” company that filed for bankruptcy last August — even after receiving million in state aid.

This week, yet another clean energy company heavily underwritten by federal loans, Abound Solar in Colorado, declared bankruptcy, leaving the taxpayers on the hook for $70 million.

And the problem with these massive federal loans supporting failed operations is not limited to solar projects. Nevada Geothermal Power, which has received $98.5 million in federal loan guarantees, is running into serious difficulties paying its bills after having operated at a loss for several years.

While these companies were failing, their top executives were receiving six figure salaries.

Two electric car (including Fisker) companies also are going up in smoke. The Fisker company invested the money in Finland, no jobs were created in the United States. Tesla received 500 million. Will start next year -- the model S Sedan. $57,000-- they claim that there is a robust market -- but for wealthy Americans. Fortune Magazine has indicated that the company will have nothing but losses. Celebrities have championed these cars, but they were not worth the risk, yet the taxpayers have been left holding the bill.

Here's another list with a curt and cutting rundown of the sheer failures associated with green subsidies from the federal government:

Here is another list:

Is this fair, Mr. Waxman? Is it fair for taxpayer dollars to be wasted in these wasteful and disgraceful green investments, loan guarantees which are guaranteed to lost?

Is this fair, Congressman?

Waxman, Dirty Oil, and Dirty Politics about Climate Change

Congressman Henry Waxman resisted the XL Keystone pipeline because he did not want all of that "bad oil" ruining the ground water from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

Recently, Waxman criticized the Keystone project because of the "Dirty Oil" that will pollute the ground and affect the climate.

For the record, hydrocarbon coming out of the ground, whether in tar sands or in liquid form, will always be dirty. While Waxman complains about "dirty oil", one has to ask if there are dirty politics, or at least dirty motives, behind Waxman's cheer-leading for green technologies, "clean energy", and environmental initiatives which have done very little initiating. To this day, Waxman has only apologized because "Solyndra happened", but with that company and eighteen other federally subsidized green tech companies, taxpayers lost $6 billion dollars. The Congressman even voted against the "No More Solyndras" Act, which would prevent these wasteful boondoggles in the future. Instead of belittling "dirty oil", Waxman should denounce the dirty backroom deals which have funnelled billions of wasted federal dollars to these failed green tech companies. Even LA City Council President Eric Garcetti has "wandered" into hot water because of his connection with "CODA" carmarkers, and industry which Garcetti welcomed from Santa Monica to Los Angeles with $1 million in redevelopment money. The company brought only one third of projected hires, the company is now laying off staff. Another "Solyndra", according to LA Weekly.

As for Keystone, despite Waxman's vehement objections, the State Department has stepped in. Following their review of the potential impact that the pipeline would have on the climate, or the environment, the report concludes the following:

"In its draft environmental review released Friday, the State Department said the construction of the pipeline through much of the Midwest would not have a meaningful impact on climate change."
No meaningful impact, Congressman. Nothing to worry about, much like the whole climate change nonsense. Instead of telling us that the sky is falling because the temperature of the earth is rising, perhaps Congressman Waxman should pay attention to more pressing issues, like our government's inability to enact substantial cuts, or to reform entitlements, or to pressure Iran to stay away from its nuclear weapons program, or reform the Postal Service so that the agency does not have to siphon away $5 billion a year to fund health benefits seventy-five years in advance in just one decade.

Let us not forget the tens of thousands of homeless veterans throughout the Los Angeles area, who deserve real "climate change", as in a place to eat, sleep, and recuperate at the Brentwood VA, their proper destination once returning stateside. The world is getting warmer, but not for the veterans, not for the business world, and certainly not for taxpaying Americans who are seeing their money burned away in Congressional waste and abuse.

Yes, the physical world is getting a little warmer,  too, but nothing for us to get all heated about. Droughts, fires, and all the other natural disasters are not having the damaging impact which green "terrorized" or "terrorizers" are having on the debate. Energy prices are rising once again, and tempers are flaring, not just from motorists who are feeling the pain at the pump, but now one plank of the Democratic Party cabal, the unions, are aflame in protest because President Obama's resistance to the project. The XL Keystone proposal is the only real "shovel-ready" project which would grant real jobs to men and women looking for more than a handout, a bailout, or a band-aid from a government that cannot agree on anything.

Congressman Henry Waxman, it's time to "nix" your opposition to a pipeline which will provide more access to energy, bring down the costs of fuel, and prevent other "superpowers" like China from taking advantage of Canadian tar sands, where the hydrocarbon will be able to fuel the entire world for one hundred years. Congressman Waxman, instead of chasing clouds in the sky or building castles in the air with the "help" of green technologies ("I'm sorry Solyndra happened?), why not relax your red-hot push for green-freak projects which project nothing but project deficits?

How about showing some support for the "blue" postal workers, men and women who are now working ten to twelve hours to deliver the mail? The local press has reported that they work longer hours, with less rest, less support, and les repsect all around. The diminished United States Postal Service  may have to forego Saturday service, as well, because of the financial burdens caused by legislation that you sponsored: "The 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act" (PAE).

Forget about the "Dirty Oil", the "Clean Energy", or "Climate Change", Congressman Waxman. Cut the spending, lower our taxes, and clean away the dirty politics of special interest, regulatory burdens, and unsightly oversight of projects which will enhance, not detract from, our quality of life in the United States.

More About Waxman, Dirty Politics, and XL Keystone

Congressman Henry Waxman has resisted the XL Keystone pipeline since its inception. In one interview, he shared that he did not want all of that "bad oil" ruining the ground water from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Waxman vs. The Koch Brothers

The Koch Brothers, major oil executives based in Kansas, have piped a great deal of support to conservative causes and Republican candidates. They also sought to increase their influence in the Libertarian Cato Institute, yet were rebuffed at the last minute. Recently, the mainstream media focused on the Koch Brothers' growing interest in purchasing the Los Angeles Times, along with other newspapers in the Tribune Co. family. Like many current newspaper organs, their market share is declining. Yet barely a month ago, protesters outside the LA Times voiced their virulent opposition to the Koch Brothers acquisition of the paper.

Another more established foe of the Koch Brothers, Congressman Henry Waxman, has unloaded on the Koch Brothers before. During an early 2012 hearing on the Keystone Pipeline, the Congressman shared with the House Energy Committee his frequent requests by letter to have the Koch Brothers appear before them and explain their financial interest in the Keystone Pipeline. Summarily rebuffed by the acting chairman Ed Whitefield (R-Kentucky), Waxman and the chairman had a brief exchange.

"The Koch Brothers have nothing to do with this project," Whitefield countered.

Waxman digressed, offended that he was not permitted to share his full concern about the matter. When Whitfield moved for a ten minute recess, Waxman countered: "Are you going to call the Koch brothers?" Whitfield assertively retorted about the billions of dollars wasted on green tech companies like Solyndra, one for which the LA representative weakly apologized: "I'm sorry Solyndra happened."

These snide asides are hardly sincere, considering that liberal elements in Washington, including aggressive progressives like Congressman Henry Waxman, have long played up corporate entities, including oil refiners, as the "Bad Guys" which "Big Government" must beat down for the good of all. To this day, PBS journalist Bill Moyers looks for and links up conspiracy theories about Republicans, conservatives, reforms, the American Legislative Exchange Council, and (that's right), the Koch Brothers.

In a town hall meeting in January 2013, Waxman once again took a swipe at the Koch Brothers, claiming that they were pulling the strings to move the Republican Party advance a pro-oil executive, anti-environment agenda.

With all the shame and blame to defame the Koch Brothers, one has to wonder to what extent the Congressman for the West Side and South Bay Beach cities will go to pin all the problems of the world on two oil executives.

Is it the Koch Brothers' fault that to this day, there is no "Subway to the Sea" which will permit residents in East Los Angeles-Boyle Heights area to commute to West Los Angeles and find more work without spending time and energy commuting down Wilshire at a snail's pace or jumping from one Metro train to the other?

Is it the Koch Brothers' fault that Obamacare, the health insurance mandate pressured and promoted by Henry Waxman, has turned into a nightmare of frightfully ironic proportions, in which health care premiums have increased substantially, along with declining access to quality physicians, including the underreported yet unprecedented revelation that there will not be enough doctors to service patients who are added to health insurance rolls? And there is the matter of the tax, which Obamacare supposedly wasn't.

Is it the Koch Brothers' fault that veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, two wars which Congressman Henry Waxman voted to authorize, are homeless stateside with no adequate placement for treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration into the community? Waxman has represented the West Los Angeles region for nearly four decades, with political acumen which sponsored his rise to chairman sub-committees in the 1990's, followed by his sudden turn in the national media spotlight as chairman of the House Oversight and Governor Reform Committee. During his brief yet dramatic and controversial tenure investigating waste and fraud from the Bush Administration, not once did he investigate the poor and dilapidated conditions of the Brentwood VA, nor did he inquire into the disgraceful neglect of Los Angeles County veterans, of which tens of thousands remain homeless. His political skill reached new heights with his usurpation of the Energy Committee Chairmanship two years later, and still nothing was done for LA area veterans.

Is it the Koch Brothers' fault that after forty years in Washington, the Congressman's chief interests, health and energy, have not received  substantial expansion or support? The Clean Water Act remains unamended, in spite of two rulings from the Supreme Court striking down its overreaching provisions or criticizing its draconian sanctions and byzantine appellate remedies.

For all his protests and incriminations toward the Koch Brothers, Congressman Henry Waxman has more to explain regarding his own record of missed opportunities, mistakes, and misplaced priorities.

Throw the Loud Lout with Clout Out of Office!

Congressman Henry Waxman has been in power since 1975, elected with the opposition class of 1974, a sharp rebuke to  Congress  following the Watergate scandal. What started as an opposition candidate has turned into an established stalwart of the reactionary liberalism of the Carter era.

The common argument from independents and undecided voters in the 33d Congressional District hinges on whether they want a Congressman with seniority and experience, or a new Congressman with fresh ideas and no political baggage.

Henry Waxman has been in office for 38 years, when the Democrats were in power, and when they were out of power. Yet the deficits keep getting bigger, the national debt gets larger, and he refuses to do anything to stop the spending.

"I love to legislate" is Waxman's mantra, yet for all his talk about loving to legislate, this man has done nothing to modify the Clean Water Act, which twice in the past six years has been limited by the Supreme Court, still waiting for Congress to clarify whatever is wrong or missing in the law.

Despite all of these provisions, this country has lost billions from entitlements gone wild, about which Congressman Waxman has done nothing, beyond spearheading the $700 billion dollar raid of Medicare to help fund ObamaCare. How many more millions have we lost because of Solyndra and other federal loan guarantees to green tech companies, loans which Waxman supported?

Henry Waxman, the Rottweiler of the House of Representatives, has at best a mixed record for oversight hearings.

In 1994, Waxman went after the Big Tobacco CEOs -- "The Seven Dwarves" -- and to what purpose? Today, Big Tobacco cannot market to minors, granted. However, humiliating those seven corporate executives before the camera to lie under oath, did more for trial lawyers than for consumers and health care advocates. And where was he during the 1992-1994 post office and check-kiting scandals which ended the Democratic Majorities in Congress for the first time in over forty years?

He prevented Big Tobacco from selling to minors. He pressed for nutrition labels on our foods. Frankly, I am glad that he went after the Bush Administration for the billions of dollars in waste during the Iraqi Conflict. All of these measures are good, but like embattled incumbent President Obama, Waxman is dragging on successes from the past, since he cannot run on his current record.

In three phrases, this is Waxman’s modern-day legacy:

"I don't know!" --- I was appalled not just by his blunt ignorance of the steroid laws in this country,  when at the same time this man was running Oversight hearings on steroid abuse in baseball. In a July interview with CNN, Waxman claimed that this country is in the midst of a recession, then he claims that we are in a depression. He calls the compulsory purchase of health insurance “an individual mandate that is enforced by a tax”, even though it’s a tax per the Supreme Court. In the same interview, Waxman speaks out of both sides of his mouth. Do we really need any more unclear politicians in Washington?

"I'm sorry!" --- He said “I’m sorry that Solyndra happened,” yet still he screams about how Republicans are anti-science and anti-women. However, ObamaCare, one of the largest expansions of the federal government in recent history, is forcing hospitals to close, which deprives men and women of appropriate access to affordable health insurance and adequate health care.

"We're not broke!" ---  This country is facing a $16  trillion national debt, yet twice in open committee, Waxman announces:  “We’re Not Broke!”  All of these statements were in response to the looming problems hitting this country, including the red ink tsunami of creditors who will refuse to buy up this country's debt, if no one in Washington does anything about it.

Waxman has had thirty-eight years to advance real health care reform. He dumped on this country "ObamaCare", a poorly written, terribly planned, and overwhelming bad piece of legislation, which is now eating away at the already crippled health insurance industry.

Bill Bloomfield has established businesses in the state of California. He has led efforts to end lawsuit abuse, support gang prevention, and provide healthcare to mothers in third-world countries. Bloomfield spear-headed the Open Primary and Citizens Redistricting initiatives, as opposed to letting politicians draw the lines which protect incumbents and maintain the extreme, uncompromising hegemony of today's politics. He has also pushed forward Prop 32, which would protect the employee's paychecks from the unaccountable union power-grab which takes the employee's money and spends the money on candidates who bolster the wealth and health of union bosses, but do nothing for the state, the worker, or the taxpayer.

Instead of an “experienced” politician, one whose expertise is expiring, the Santa Monica Bay should elect an “experienced citizen”, one who has contribute to the community, politically and economically, before he decided to run for office.

Vote for Bill Bloomfield.  As for Henry Waxman: “Throw the Loud Lout with "Clout" Out of Office.

Waxman and Solyndra

$500 million of taxpayer dollars went up in smoke in one of many emblazoned attempts by President Obama to promote Green Energy.

The Solyndra fiasco should have been enough to force Energy Secretary Stephen Chu to tender his resignation.

Instead, Congressman Waxman used his presence on the House Energy Committee to justify the questionable and controversial arguments over climate change.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Dhc4ioFhmU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=GXksgSPnuxQ&NR=1

More government will not protect the environment, but will expand the role and reach of the state, which will in turn knock down the trees and poison the very waters that environmentalists like Waxman want to protect.

The Green Lobby is no friend of economic growth, with so many scandals and so much waste, I cannot imagine why any moderate defender of the environmental movement has not turn in his Sierra Club card in outright disgust.

Issa vs. Waxman -- the Saga (of Sorts)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/26/henry-waxman-darrell-issa-solyndra_n_981482.html

Congressman Darrel Issa (R-Vista) serves as the current Oversight Committee Chairman.

Instead of wasting time going after steroid abuse in baseball, instead of investigating lead in toys, and instead of partisan witch-hunts which place him before the camera and serve the interests of trial attorneys, Issa has pursued waste in the Post office, the IRS abuses of conservative groups, the flagrant lapses of security which doomed Benghazi to terrorist attacks, and also the infamous gun-running operation Fast and Furious.

Issa has also investigated the federal subsidies to green tech companies, including Solyndra.

And he had some terse words for Congressman Henry Waxman, demanding to know whether the Westside legislator had any connections or financial interest in the company.

Waxman denied any corrupt connections with the industry, yet his weak regret "I'm sorry Solyndra happened" was a slap in the face to the voters and taxpayers in this country.

Darrel Issa -- leading the fight, from which Waxman took flight.

Time to Badger the Badger!

How do you like it, Congressman Waxman?

First, he goes

If there is any clearer example of hypocrisy, look no further than this clip.

Waxman wanted to read the Fifth Amendment rights for the Solyndra executives.

Yet he never had a problem castigating CEOs, you never had problems going after colleagues, but now the tables are turned.

Congressman Henry Waxman has quite a reputation with his Democratic as well as Republican colleagues.

Voters are waking up in the Santa Monica Bay, and they have no problem giving Waxman "The Badger" a taste of his own medicine!

Time to badger the badger!

Questions for Congresman Waxman

http://townhall.com/columnists/austinhill/2012/07/22/questions_to_ask_democrats_as_they_abandon_barack/page/full/

If President Obama is committed to an ‘all of the above’ strategy [anything but drilling for oil], why did he reject the Keystone XL pipeline project that would have produced employment opportunities from the Canadian border all the way to Texas?”

Mr. Waxman will started shake a little if someone asked him this question. He actually claimed that the biggest reason why he rejects the Keystone pipeline is. . .

The oil from Canada is dirty. .

How elitist can one get? Does Waxman even know the price of milk or a gallon of gas? Congressman Ed Whitfield also gave Waxman a piece of his mind, and I am sure that the voters in the Santa Monica Bay will do the same!
"How do you feel about CBS News reporting that the Obama Administration has lost $6.5 billion of our money already on what they described as ‘risky green energy ventures?’ Did CBS lie to us?”
So far, Henry has only said "I'm sorry that Solyndra happened."

Yet these loans are not a matter of arbitrary fiat. These are legislated proposals, or worse yet executive emoluments, and Congressman Waxman is without excuse, completely accountable for all that has happened.

How do you respond to President Obama's policy of land-swaps, bringing Israel back to its Pre-1967 borders?

Waxman champions Obama on many matters, but how does the President stack up on throwing Israel under the buss, enough that a 3-to-1 Democratic burrough in Long Island elected GOP Bob Turner to replace the disgrace Anthony Weiner?

Another Shout Out Against Waxman

For the first time in his 38-year incumbency, Congressman Henry Waxman is facing a real challenge to his re-election prospects. Throughout his lengthy career, Waxman coasted into victory by running in districts that were gerrymandered with a 60% Democratic advantage. Twice in his career he ran unopposed by a major party.

On June 6th 2012, Independent Bill Bloomfield, co-founder of "No Labels", mounted a moneyed challenge to win the top-two spot to challenge Waxman in the new 33rd Congressional District, a new constituency which takes in the entire Santa Monica Bay, from Palos Verdes to Malibu. In this district, a real race is taking place in spite of the prognosticators who claim the district is “Safe Democratic.”

Congressman Waxman's tenure is marked with unaccountability and unpreparedness.

When Waxman was confronted about the basic laws regulating steroids and alcohol in this country, he admitted “I don’t know!”. He also admitted his ignorance about $15 million in stimulus dollars on steroid education. The only problem with this admission is that he was conducted heavy oversight hearings into steroid abuse at the time.

About the details of his own signature legislation, Cap and Trade, he also admitted in open committee that he did not know what was in his own bill, then he attempted to add a 300-page amendment to the legislation at the last minute.

Earlier this year, he declared: “I’m sorry that Solyndra happened!”,  a wasteful failure stemming from the failed federal loan guarantee program for green tech companies – authorized by President Obama. However, Waxman voted “No!” on the “No More Solyndras” Act.

In a recent budget committee hearing, Congressman Waxman admitted that he did not know that General Motors went bankrupt. This kind of ignorance has grown habitual with the Congressman, perhaps due to the arrogance of running in a safe district after all these years.

In open committee, not once by twice Waxman declared "We're not broke!" even though this country is facing multi-trillion dollar debt. He has voted against every working class and middle class tax cut since 2000. His neglect of the Brentwood VA is inexcusable, with thousands of homeless vets still waiting for adequate care and housing.

Bill Bloomfield is an Independent businessman from Manhattan Beach. He has refused party backing or special interest money. A fiscal conservative and moderate on social issues, Bloomfield deserves to serve in Congress.

Vote for Bill Bloomfield for the 33rd!

"Is this Fair?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=6-IvKE1stIo&feature=endscreen

Henry Waxman dragged Richard Fuld over the coals for taking in half a billion dollars, even though his company went bankrupt.

As head of Lehman Brothers, Mr. Fuld is without excuse for his shenanigans, if he engaged in any crime. .

Yet I still ponder and wonder how Mr. Waxman could go after predatory lenders, but he gave a pass to Solyndra, which lost $500 million in taxpayer dollars. . .

I have a question for you, Mr. Waxman:

Is that fair?

Do you think it's OK for Congress to take risks with taxpayer dollars, and on top of that to hammer taxpayers with the largest tax increase in history in the name of providing adequate access to health care?
What Do You Say to That, Mr. Waxman?

Santa Monica Daily Press "Endorses" Henry Waxman

I love free speech! No one has to fear if someone spreads lies or distortions, because everyone has access to information from different sources, with many biases. The truth will out, and no one can put it out.

The Santa Monica Daily Press loves free speech, too. In the past year, the SMDP has generously afforded an out-of-towner like me some press space in their "Letters to the Editor". Here's one that I wrote about Waxman, the Fifth Street Post Office, and their striking similarities.

Sadly, I wish that Congressman Waxman shared my enthusiam for free speech, but unfortunately he shut me down in an "open forum" in Redondo Beach last week.

On a more recent note, the SMDP has just released their list of endorsements for local and national races. From the outset, the editorial board admitted a penchant for supporting Democratic candidates. Their endorsement of Congressman Henry Waxman sounded like a back-handed compliment. With the endorsement in its entirety, some of the finer points that stand deserve greater scrutiny:

Waxman has a long history of supporting liberal causes and holding those in power account
able.

I am glad to say that with the growing number of young voters and Santa Monicans, this view is not total. Independents in the region are skeptical of any man who has been in power for so long. I have run into open-minded voters throughout the region, even Republicans in Venice, who don't support another term of Henry Waxman.

As far as holding "those in power" accountable, how come he voted "No!" to the "No More Solyndras" Act? He said that he was "sorry that Solyndra happened". Where was he when the banking and check-kiting scandals broke in Washington in the early 1990's?

He’s an old-school progressive whose views mirror those of most Santa Monicans.

Unfortunately, Waxman has gone corporate, taking huge campaign donations. The real distinction of "old-school" progressive belongs to retiring Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich, a politician who was willing to charter private jets just to cast voters, a progressive presidential candidate who has also decried the growth of "big government" in Washington and who wanted to get our troops out of Afghanistan immediately.

That said, it has felt at times as if he has taken us for granted.

This admission is the most telling and the most damning. After 38 years in office, rarely running a campaign, and twice facing no major party challenger, a legislator grows complacent, even distant. From the moment he got elected, Waxman moved to Washington D.C. and never moved back. Even for his current campaign, the Electoral Commission lists his office in Bethesda, Maryland. What's he doing out there when he's supposed to be representing interests in the Santa Monica Bay?

No movement on building housing for homeless veterans.

Honestly, Waxman's lack of movement on this issue is also a damning indictment, once which cannot be overlooked. Granted, the city of Santa Monica has set up services to support homeless veterans. The Congressman who currently represents the Santa Monica Bay has failed to get in step with his ownn constituents. He had two years on the House Oversight and Government Reform committee. During his tenure, he went after lead in toys, but the status and abuse of the Brentwood VA was not a priority.

Letters sent but nothing accomplished in regards to limiting flights at Santa Monica Airport or saving the Downtown post office.

Writing letters does not a Congressman make. Anyone can write a letter, and having federal authority behind you, no matter how persuasive or penetrating one's prose, does not advance the cause of getting housing for our homeless veterans. As for the Post Office, a movie producer bought the Venice Post office; there must be someone else who can step in to care-take the Fifth Street Post Office, too.

But then again, there’s no guarantee that any of that would have been accomplished if his challenger, millionaire Bill Bloomfield, were in office.

Waxman already established a record of doing very little or not enough for these issues. "No guarantee" does not mean "no doubt", though, since a politician must keep good on his promises, or not get reelected. Bloomfield has taken no PAC or special interest money, so he has already signaled to voters that he represents them, not the political class, not the lobbyists. Bloomfield has invested in many causes including electoral reform, a documented record of assisting the community before he threw his hat in the ring!

We liked Bloomfield and believe his efforts to rid Washington of obstructionist forces are needed, but his disinterest in local issues concerned us, as well as his lack of a voting record.

Bloomfield's interests in a Congress that works is an interest that touches on everyone. A lack of a voting record does not impede evaluating the well-meaning and the presence of a Congressman in office.

We believe Waxman should be given another term, while Bloomfield should be supported in his efforts to reform politics from the outside.

Bloomfield can do more from inside Congress, and that’s where he belongs. Bloomfield for the 33rd!

End the Cult of Waxman the Taxman

I do not understand it.

How can people like this guy?

He said "We're not broke!" not once, but twice in open committee.

He said "I'm sorry Solyndra happened!" yet voted against  the "No More Solyndras" Act.

He said: "I don't know" about his own cap and trade bill, the GM auto bailouts, and steroids in baseball.

He has ignored the plight of homeless veterans for decades.

He has voted against lowering taxes for working Americans.

Yet people "love Henry Waxman"!

There is only one answer I can think of:

The cult of "Waxman the Taxman" has brain-washed people.

How does the cult work?

You vote for "Waxman the Taxman", and you get "free stuff".

One resident in Santa Monica told me how much he loved Congressman Waxman.

When I  pressed him to explain why, he was hesitant at first. Then he shared that  he gets "free health care."

"Free health care" does not exist, because someone is paying for it. Such a notion of "free anything" belies a break from reality. The fact that this gentleman could not explain why he liked Congressman Waxman was quite disturbing, as well.

I still remember the voter whom I spoke with in Venice, a guy who assumed that Congressman Waxman "fights for the little guy." When I told him about  "We're not broke!" and his record of voting against tax cuts, he was open to learning more about the Congressman.

Then there is former Mayor Henry Duclos, who claimed that Congressman Waxman "fights for us, and wins!"

What or who is Waxman fighting for? That we have fewer doctors in California? That we have higher premiums because of Obama-WaxmanCare? That American families will be burdened with record tax increases because of a law which forces people to purchase health care in a market which has grown more strained?

It's time to end the cult of Waxman the Taxman. People need to know the truth about this man, that he does not respect nor represent the best interests of his constituents, or the country, or even the Constitution of the United States.

Waxman's First Campaign Ad -- 38-Year Tenure a Turn-Off

Your Tenure is a Turn-Off, Henry--
No More Turns for You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lICnGq0Udpg

Over the past three decades, Congressman Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles) never had to run a real campaign to stay in office. In effect, the partisan gerrymandering from the state legislature permitted him to choose his voters, and thus he cruised into office with 60% of the vote in term after term. A few years ago, he even boasted that he never had to launch a major advertising campaign to keep his seat.

Now that the California Citizens Redistricting Commission has redrawn the districts per Proposition 11, a reform which Waxman opposed, the LA-based Congressman is facing Independent Bill Bloomfield, a real challenger for the first time in nearly forty years.

Because of the threat to his tenure, the long-standing legislator has just launched his first YouTube ad. At the outset, he challenges voters to distinguish between "political hype" and "the tried and true." Waxman alleges that his time in Congress is reason enough to keep him in office.

His lengthy stay in no way justifies extending Congressman Waxman's tenure for one more term. Truly, voters throughout the Santa Monica Bay are tired of Henry Waxman, a politician who has spent more time in Washington than working with his constituents. I have spoken with voters in Santa Monica and throughout the South Bay, and they do not care for this man.

Waxman has yet to visit the southern half of the district, South of Dockweiler Beach, which composes the new and more moderate half of the district he intends to represent. The Malibu Democratic Club reported on his recent visit, his first in four years. Where has he been in the mean time?

The Berman-Sherman contest in the 30th Congressional District, which includes sections from Waxman’s previous Valley constituency, is signaling to pundits that incumbency is no longer a strong point. Voters across party lines are favoring the younger Sherman, a legislator who voted against TARP and does not represent the old class of politician who sits and struts and pulls the
levers of the political machine.

Waxman and Berman are cut from the same cloth: two pols who have ignored the polls and opinions of the people who elect them because they have cruised into office with almost immoral ease for the last three decades. More specifically, Waxman supported the massive TARP bailout both times. He has voted against almost every effort to initiate tax relief for the middle class over his long career in Congress. His green policies have taken green (as in “money”) from hard-working taxpayers to fund failed green companies, of which Solyndra was the most flagrant.

It’s time for a change. It’s time that politicians in the Santa Monica Bay pay
attention to the voters, not vice versa. Waxman has paid attention only to his
own power instead of respecting and responding to the limited powers enumerated to him by Congress and “We the People”.

On November 6th, vote for Bill Bloomfield for the 33rd!

Waxman and the Malibu Times -- August 17

The Malibu Times reported on Congressman Henry Waxman’s recent press conference, calling for heightened coastal protections along the Malibu shore, yet also taking time to attack the Republicans in the House.

The press conference was in keeping with a key theme of Waxman’s re-election campaign thus far, which is that Republicans are to blame for partisan gridlock in Washington, D.C.

Independent candidate Bill Bloomfield correctly identified Henry Waxman’s press conference and findings as a “partisan document produced at taxpayer expense.”

Congressman Henry Waxman is blaming the Republican Majority in the House for pushing an anti-environmental agenda. Yet Waxman’s legislation has been anti-recovery, and his actions in Congress have done nothing to improve the nation’s laws to protect our waters and protect our rights.

Not the Congress, but rather the Supreme Court has handed down withering judgments faulting the Clean Water for is unwavering vagaries.

In 2006, the Rehnquist Court ruled in Rapanos v. United Statesthat Congress and the EPA failed to define or qualify the extent that running tributaries would impede building on one’s property.

Sackett v. EPA has permitted two home-owners in Idaho to pursue an appeal to end an arbitrate injunction preventing them from building a home on their own property. The Court allowed the Sacketts to sue the EPA immediately instead of enduring fines and sanctions before having a case to sue.

To this day, Waxman still stands by the failed “green loan guarantees program” one which has witnessed the waste of billions of dollars in the worthless quest of green technology on the federal dole. Nineteen federally subsidized companies have gone bankrupt, including $500 million toward Solyndra,“I’m sorry” was all that he had to say.

About the gridlock in Congress, Waxman’s continues to charge that “Republicans are to blame.” This is ridiculous schlock. How does Waxman justify pushing through Cap and Trade in 2009, which passed by the slimmest of margins –219-212, and at the last minute before the floor vote, he crammed in a 300 page amendment, which no one had time to read? Then there was Obama-WaxmanCare, a bill which faced bipartisan opposition, which passed through reconciliation on a 216-212 vote, despite the roaring crowds, both Democrat and Republican, which assembled on the Washington Mall to petition the government not to pass the law?

He has stonewalled proper investigation and mark-up of the XL Keystone Pipeline, throwing out the empty charges of collusion between the Koch Brothers and the Republicans in Congress. These empty charges are systemic and symptomatic of Waxman’s hyped-up hyperpartisanship, stalling Congress, energy independence, and economic recovery.

Waxman attacks the wrong people for the failures of the Clean Water Act, then he hypocritically assails the House Republicans for the very tactics which he actively practices. His partisanship cleary imparts that he will not partner with the opposition to get anything done. It is time for Waxman to part and let Bloomfield take his place to part the partisan gridlock.
